Lana Group

Linda and Bipin Doshi Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Missouri University of Science and Technology

The Lana Research Group studies architectured biomaterials and soft materials, with a focus on understanding how material structure, mechanics, and dynamics regulate biological function. We are particularly interested in how properties such as stiffness, viscoelasticity, adhesion, and degradation can be independently controlled to probe and direct interactions between materials and living systems. Our group combines polymer and biomaterial design, soft matter mechanics, and advanced experimental methods to create dynamic materials with precisely tunable properties. Although we approach many fundamental questions in materials science and mechanics, we are interested in systems with applications in areas including tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, disease modeling, and biointerfaces.
Our work spans three interconnected research directions:
  • Dynamic cancer microenvironments using engineered biomaterials and microfluidic platforms
  • Wearable biointerfaces for adaptive sensing and health monitoring
  • Biofabrication and 3D bioprinting of architectured soft materials for tissue engineering applications
About the PI Dr. Gabriela Moreira Lana is an incoming Assistant Professor in the Linda and Bipin Doshi Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology. With a background in Materials Science and Engineering, her research is inspired by hierarchical architectures and adaptive responses found in nature to engineer materials for biomedical applications. She is passionate about translating fundamental research into real-world technologies through interdisciplinary collaborations across academia and industry.
